Dufferin County ON: The Dufferin Board of Trade, in partnership with Boards of Trade and Chambers of Commerce across the Province, is celebrating Small Business Week. On October 12th The Dufferin Board of Trade received the proclamation from the County of Dufferin, proclaiming the week of October 16 – 20, 2017 as Small Business Week in Dufferin. Small Business Week is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions small businesses make to Ontario’s economy and local communities.

The Dufferin Board of Trade also received the proclamation of October as Small Business Month in Orangeville from the Town of Orangeville on September 28th.

Small businesses are the backbone of the Ontario economy and the heart of our local community here in Dufferin”, said Pete Renshaw, Chair of the Dufferin Board of Trade “Over the course of Small Business Week, The Dufferin Board of Trade will be engaging with small businesses to show them that we recognize the significant role they play in our community and to discuss important issues that impact the health of our small businesses in Dufferin.”

Small businesses face a variety of obstacles impeding growth. Last year, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce published a report, Obstacles and Opportunities: The Importance of Small Business in Ontario, which identified many obstacles small businesses in the province face, including key infrastructure gaps, access to talent, and concerns about the rising costs of doing business.

The celebration of Small Business Week and Month across Dufferin County will culminate at the 2017 Business Excellence Awards Gala on October 19th. The Business Excellence Awards will celebrate the accomplishments of local businesses and organizations.

Small businesses are fundamental to Dufferin’s economy. They make up 98 per cent of Dufferin’s businesses. Small businesses employ over 3 million Ontarians and account for over two-thirds of all private sector workers.
