Climate Change and Environmental Issues:

1) Many environmentalists suggest we have less than 20 years to stop irreversible damage to our climate with dire consequences. Do you believe this? What dramatic actions do you support to stop climate change before it is too late?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: We are already living in a climate changed world. The question is, how can we mitigate climate change so that our planet avoids even worse consequences by holding the global temperature increase to 2C or below. Over the last four years, the Liberal government has initiated policies that will take us three- quarters of the way to our Paris Accord commitment. To get us the rest of the way there and exceed our 2030 emissions goal, we have committed to:

  • Net zero emissions by 2050, with legally-binding, five-year milestones, based on the advice of the experts and consultations with Canadians;
  • Planting 2 billion trees as a natural carbon solution;
  • Banning single use plastics as early as 2021;
  • Incenting businesses to manufacture and distribute clean technology by cutting their corporate tax rate in half;
  • Investing in 5,000 charging stations and public transit infrastructure to support the transition to electric vehicles;
  • Appointing a group of scientists, economists, and experts to recommend the best path to get to net-zero by 2050.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We have been hearing the alarm for at least the past 50 years, from the incoming ice age to the depletion of the ozone layer. That being said it doesn’t mean that we need to be reckless but always good stewards of what we have. Research is important to see if we can improve but not at all costs.

2) Will you commit to forming a science led all party commission to advise government on climate legislation and to introduce appropriate legislation that will ask for all party approval?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: I like the idea of an all-party commission as climate change is a non-partisan issue. We need all hands on deck to find and commit to solutions.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Yes, it needs to be agreed upon all parties and not just those who will benefit from funding.

3) How do you plan on addressing habitat destruction which is leading to the decline of pollinators such as native bees?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberal government will plant two billion trees to clean our air and protect our communities. This will help create about 3,500 seasonal jobs in tree planting each year, and will be part of a $3 billion commitment to better conserve and restore forests, grasslands, agricultural lands, wetlands, and coastal areas.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We need to ensure that we protect the bees as they are important to pollination. We need to research what is causing the destruction and address it.

4) What do you see as roles for the municipal, provincial and federal governments with respect to Climate Change action plans?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We need to be good stewards of what we have, again not at all costs.

5) Will you and your party divest Canada from industries that are harming the environment and invest in sustainable options?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberals will invest every dollar we earn from the Trans-Mountain Expansion Project in Canada’s clean energy transition and fighting climate change. We are also committed to phasing out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies by 2025, and we’re on track to do so. Eight out of nine tax subsidies for fossil fuels are already being phased out but taking the time to get this right makes sense. For example, one program that has been identified as a subsidy helps support fuel costs for Indigenous communities that still rely on diesel. Our Clean Power Fund will also help support the transition of northern, remote, and Indigenous communities to clean energy, but the new systems are up and running, that support still has a role to play.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We always need to be striving to be better. We need encourage companies to be more responsible.

6) Will your party implement a Carbon Tax, and if so, what kind?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: We are committed to keeping a price on pollution across the country as an effective way to reduce GHG emissions. It’s wrong to call it a tax, as Canadians get an income tax rebate that in most instances more than covers what they spend on carbon pricing. The carbon pricing model is market-driven and has proven effective in BC, QU, parts of the United States and European countries. To read more about BC’s experience, visit https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/carbon-tax-bc-1.5083734. There are links to studies in the article.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: No! Taxing only lines the pockets of politicians. We would actually refund collected Carbon Taxes.

7) How will your party tackle the climate emergency and meet the needs of those communities expected to be most impacted by climate change?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: See Above.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We don’t believe that there is a climate emergency, again this is political alarmist looking for more money.

8) Will your party commit to an all-party climate caucus to develop a legislated, accountable framework for Canada to meet emissions targets in line with the most recent IPCC recommendations?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: See Above.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Absolutely as long as all parties including the CHP are a part of the agreement.

Local Economy, Infrastructure, and Internet:

1) Do you agree with increased rural economic development investment and, if elected, how will you champion this important public policy with all caucus members to create public investment in rural areas in Ontario and across Canada?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes, I will champion increased investment for our rural areas in Dufferin-Caledon. One example of what we will do is boost investments for exportation of our agricultural products. We will create a new agency, Farm and Food Development Canada (FFDC) to be a single point of service, help food producers expand to new markets, and increase capital lending capability to up to $5 billion/year to help food businesses succeed and grow.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Depends on the investment. Are we assisting farmers? Or are we buying farm land and turning them into residential developments? We need to stand with our farmers as they are the ones that feed us.

2) How will you support investment in natural gas infrastructure expansion projects to rural communities to stimulate economic development?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Natural gas is a cheaper option for rural communities. This will help theme financially and get away from current Oil heat which is costly. Even propane can be costly and inefficient.

3) How will you help bring broadband internet to rural Ontario?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Earlier this year, the Liberal government set a national target to ensure that 95 per cent of Canadian homes and businesses will have high-speed internet by 2026, and 100 per cent by 2030. Locally, the federal government is a major partner in funding SWIFT (Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology), which is committed to bringing broadband internet to underserviced areas of our riding by 2023. However, SWIFT is on record as saying it needs much more funding for full coverage. The government has a Universal Broadband Fund which should be helpful for us in that regard.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Broadband is coming. I believe we need to open our borders to bigger players. AT & T tried, but the big 3 here ran scare tactic advertisements to chase them away.

4) Rural Dufferin County has a lack of high speed internet as well as spotty cell service throughout the county. Many people think this should be a Federal Election issue. What are your thought and plans to improve our service?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: See Above.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: I believe we need to open our borders to bigger players. AT & T tried, but the big 3 here ran scare tactic advertisements to chase them away.

5) How does your party feel about the installation of the 5G network, and given its potential for harm, how do you plan to safeguard human health and the environment if it is installed?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: We will be guided by science with respect to any identified health risks of 5G.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: My concern even with my own family is the potential physical harm of high frequency waves. Unfortunately technology is probably moving faster than research and the average person doesn’t care as long as they stay connected. We need to research more before going any further.

Immigration, Refugees & Asylum Seekers:

1) Will your party ensure that federal, provincial, and territorial governments work together to provide the requisite resources and infrastructure to welcome vetted refugees and asylum seekers into Canada?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: This is a necessity. All new individuals to Canada must be properly vetted.

2) Will your party ensure that federal, provincial, and territorial governments work together to provide the requisite resources and infrastructure to welcome these vetted refugees and asylum seekers into Canada? How?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Proper processing and training of all individuals. Maybe aligning our technology with other countries (if there immigration technology is superior) to ensure proper vetting.

3) What is your party’s position on the Canada-US Safe Third Country Agreement? Will you suspend, revoke or otherwise amend it and if so, how?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberal government will maintain the Canada-US Safe Third County Agreement. Recently introduced measures are enough to ensure the system remains fair for everyone — including those in need of asylum.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We need to have an equitable agreement with our largest trading partner. Both countries would benefit.

Gender Equality Issues:

1) Will you commit to increased, long-term funding for women’s rights organizations, including grassroots advocates, to support a healthy and thriving civil society in Canada and around the world?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes. We have renewed our commitment to a Federal Plan for Gender Equality, including a coordinated strategy built on the Gender Results Framework and other international agreements. A Liberal government will ensure that rigorous GBA+ will continue to be performed on all policy proposals.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: I believe equal pay for equal work. All rights are enbedded in our Charter of Rights. If you are talking additional rights specifically for women, then no. Everyone citizen is equal in Canada.

2) Will you commit to creating a national action plan to prevent and address all forms of violence against women, trans, non-binary and Two Spirit people?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes. The Liberal Government will build on the foundation we laid with the Gender-Based Violence Strategy and move forward with an additional $30 million investment to develop a National Action Plan. This will help ensure that anyone facing gender-based violence has reliable and timely access to protection and services, no matter who they are or where they live. In addition, the Liberals will amend the Criminal Code to ban the practice of conversion therapy.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: The law is the law. If there is a crime against an individual it is punishable by our laws. I don’t believe in special laws for certain individuals. We are all equal.

3) What is the gender wage gap in Ontario?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: There is none. I’ve talked to union people and all are paid the same. Equal pay for equal work.

4) What will your party do to address the gender wage gaps?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberal government passed the Pay Equity Act, requiring federally regulated employers to identify job classes, evaluate work, compare compensation associated with jobs dominated by men and women respectively and examine their compensation practices to ensure women and men in the workplaces receive equal pay for work of equal value. The legislation applies to federal public servants and political staff, as well as federally regulated sectors such as banking, shipping and telecommunications.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Equal pay for equal work.

5) What will your party do to address the discriminatory pay gaps that are a violation of human rights?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Equal pay for equal work.

Health Care & Pharmacare:

1) Will your party implement a universal, public, comprehensive, accessible and portable Pharmacare program?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes, including reproductive health medications.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: This will only generate higher taxes. Big Pharma must not continue to have a monopoly on treatment protocols and access to drugs.

2) Will your party ensure a comprehensive, evidence-based formulary, so that Canadians can access the medications they need to maintain and improve their health?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: All Canadians should have access to medications to provide improvement to their health as long as this is monitored not to include recreational narcotics. Big Pharma must not continue to have a monopoly on treatment protocols and access to drugs.

3) Will your party ensure that federal and provincial governments work together effectively to implement universal, public Pharmacare?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We have health care, the objective would be to improve our pre-existing health care provider and make improvements. Big Pharma must not continue to have a monopoly on treatment protocols and access to drugs.

4) Will your party implement a universal, public, comprehensive, accessible and portable Pharmacare program?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We have health care, the objective would be to improve our pre-existing health care provider and make improvements. Big Pharma must not continue to have a monopoly on treatment protocols and access to drugs.

5) Similar to other medical procedures, abortion has been legal, with no legislated restrictions, in Canada for the past 30 years. Would you vote in favour of any legislation that deviates from this status quo? If so, what would be the intent behind your vote?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: I am pro-choice, as is the Liberal Party of Canada as a matter of policy. Any vote of mine would uphold the right for women to choose.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We are a 100% Pro-Life party. We would not pay for abortions. Their are other methods to avoid pregnancy. Abortions are costly to our program and doctors could be better served performing life threatening operations as opposed to life alterating.

Indigenous Rights:

1) The current PM promised to clean up Grassy Narrows, nothing has been done, what will you and your party do about it?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberal government is committed to completion of a mercury treatment care facility in Grassy Narrows.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We believe in recognition of prior occupancy by first peoples. Restitution where and as appropriate, Reconciliation leading to a full participation in Canadian society for all Canadians.

2) What will your party do to address the current piecemeal approach to ending boil water advisories on First Nations reserves?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: In the last four years, the Liberal government has invested nearly $2 billion to build, repair, and upgrade public water systems in First Nations communities. Working with First Nations partners, we have eliminated 87 long-term drinking water advisories. The remaining 50 or so will be eliminated over the next two years, by 2021. We are committed to making sure that all Indigenous communities have access to clean water.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: All Canadians deserve fresh water, we are not a 3rd world country.

3) What will your party do to address the calls for justice outlined in the final report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberals will continue work to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and the National Inquiry into Missing and
Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ Calls for Justice, in partnership with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Agriculture Issues:

1) How will you invest in rural transportation infrastructure to ensure agri-business can transport farm equipment and goods to market?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: This is a good question. At this point I know that the Liberals are committed to increasing investment to help make our country the world’s second largest exporter of agricultural products by 2025. I also know the government is investing heavily in infrastructure, which includes roads. No reason why those
two streams can’t come together for the good of our farmers and agri-business.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We have no platform here. But I think that the farmers know best as when their product is ready to go to market, it is time sensitive and cannot wait for a group to get together to transport all at the same time.

Housing & Homelessness:

1) How can the federal government make it easier for young people to qualify for buying a new home. The current restrictions and streets tests are making it too difficult for you people to get into the market and are forced into rental housing

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: To help more people buy their first home, the Liberal government will introduce the First-Time Home Buyer Incentive, which will give people up to 10 per cent off the purchase price of their first home. We will also increase the qualifying value to $789,000 in the places where houses cost more.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Putting more money in everyone’s pockets and stop foreign investors from purchasing property.

2) How will your government incentivize existing home owners to upgrade their homes to reduce their carbon footprint?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party:

  • The Liberal government will help retrofit 1.5 million homes to help Canadians make their homes more energy efficient, and better protect them from climate- related risks.
  • For interested homeowners and landlords, we will offer a free energy audit. Then to help them pay for retrofits and green renovations, we will give them an interest-free loan of up to $40,000.
  • We will invest $100 million in skills training, to ensure there are enough qualified workers to keep up with energy audits, retrofits, and net-zero home construction.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada: More efficient homes are economical. There are programs to help reduce your taxes if you upgrade.

3) Would your government be willing to work in your riding to shift the focus from emergency services to preventative strategies and to fund them adequately?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Preventive is always the key to everything.

4) Homelessness exists in all communities in Canada. Are you aware of the programs and projects that are in place in your riding to prevent homelessness? What are your ideas on how to prevent homelessness? How would you address the local homeless situation?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party:

  • The Liberal Government has created Canada’s first-ever National Housing Strategy. This is a 10-year, $40-billion plan to strengthen communities, build affordable housing, and cut chronic homelessness in half.
  • To address veterans’ homelessness, we will move forward with building new, purpose-built accessible and affordable housing units, with a full range of health, social, and employment supports for veterans who need extra help. We will support this work with an additional investment of $15 million a year.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Put more money into everyone’s pockets. Not more affordable housing but make housing affordable.

Poverty & Basic Income:

1) What other initiatives would your party support to reduce poverty?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party:

  • The Liberal Government will help Canadians keep more of what they earn. We will make sure that people don’t pay federal taxes on the first $15,000 of their income. This will save the average family nearly $600 a year. It will also mean that about 700,000 more Canadians, including seniors and young people starting their careers, will pay no federal tax at all, lifting nearly 40,000 more people out of poverty
  • Changes that we made to the Canada Child Benefit helped lift close to 300,000 children out of poverty over the last four years. We will be enhancing the benefit by 15% for parents of an infant under one year of age.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Eliminate Income Tax, put money back into everyone’s pockets.

2) Does your party support a Basic Income Program? How should such a program be implemented?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: A Basic Income Program is not part of our election platform. However, I was personally interested to see the research outcomes from the Basic Guaranteed Income pilot project in Ontario. Unfortunately, it was cancelled mid-way through the three-year pilot before proper results could be determined. It also pulled the rug out from under the feet of vulnerable, low-income people, who were making changes to their lives based on the program.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: No, eliminate income tax.

3) What does your party see as roles for the municipal, provincial and federal governments with respect to Poverty?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Federal governments responsibility to put more money in people’s pockets.

4) Will you commit to removing barriers to economic equality by funding public services and social programs?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: This is a slippery slope, because who determines which programs receive and which don’t. If individuals have more money in their pockets they can afford other programs.

Early Learning & Child Care:

1) How much money has your party budgeted to spend on Early Learning and Child Care?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We want parents to be the primary care givers of their children.

2) Will your party implement universal child care?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party:No Response.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We want parents to be the primary care givers of their children.

3) What will your party do to address the child care crisis?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Liberal Government will create up to 250,000 more before and after school spaces for children under 10, with at least 10 per cent of these new spaces set aside for care during extended hours. To help families with the high cost of care, we will also lower child care fees for before and after school programs by 10 per cent across the board. The Liberal Government will also move forward with more support for our early childhood educators, to ensure that across the country, they are better paid and trained to take care of our kids. This means lower tuition costs for people getting their early childhood educator degree, and extra help to cover the costs for early childhood educators seeking further training.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Make it more affordable to go back to one parent income.

Miscellaneous:

1) What are your views on FTP vs proportional voting? Why do you feel that way?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: I support proportional representation because I like the idea that every vote can count in a meaningful way. However, multiple referendums in parts of Canada have shown that the majority do not currently support a change. I think this is partly a marketing challenge – people don’t know how a new voting system would work. I would love to have the opportunity to change this. However, this reform is not part of the Liberal platform at this time. That said, we have been making changes to boost democracy, including more free votes and making the Senate merit-based and non-partisan. We will continue to move forward with reforms, including:

  • allocating more time for Private Members’ Business to be debated and voted on in Parliament;
  • working with Parliament to introduce new technology or other institutional changes to better connect Members with their constituents;
  • eliminating the use of whip and party lists to give the Speaker greater freedom in calling on Members who wish to speak; and
  • providing more resources to parliamentary committees so that they have the staff and research they need to deliver meaningful policy recommendations.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: I believe that there is always a driving factor as to the party we wish to have in power and that may play in the way we cast our vote for our local rep. I personally would love to vote separately for my local rep and for the party of my choice. Because what if I like my local rep but not the party they represent.

2) Would you and your party do something to force revenue Canada to collect taxes from off shore business that owe money? There is a lot of money owed (Billions).

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: The Government of Canada is committed to enforcement of existing tax laws.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: As long as we continue to tax the wealthy hard and business, they will find shelters. We need to ease their burden and give incentives to invest back in Canada.

3) Why is our Canada Pension plan not going to last & who came up with the idea to call it “Federal payment Benefit”. This not a benefit, this our money that we & our employers put into your pension plan. At least give it back to us tax free.

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: This is actually not true, it is one of the pieces of disinformation that has been circulating during this campaign. There are no plans to change the name of the Canada Pension Plan. You can check out Snopes on this one… it’s a Canadianized version of something that has been circulating for a while in the US. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/federal-benefit-payments/

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Th Christian Heritage Party of Canada: We would introduce a PISA (Personal Income Security Account) to give Canadian’s control over their own employment pension funds. Contributions would be made by both the employer and employee to each individuals account.

4) Does each of you reside permanently in a home in Dufferin/Caledon yourselves on a daily basis?

Conservative Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.

Green Party: Please see our 2019 Platform

Liberal Party: Yes, I live in Caledon.

New Democratic Party: Awaiting Response.

People’s Party of Canada: Awaiting Response.
