For Immediate Release | 26 August 2021

Dufferin ON:  As the 2021 Federal Election rapidly approaches, the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) is pleased to announce that we will continue our proud tradition of hosting an election forum in our area, with the support of the Dufferin Federation of Agriculture, the CFUW Orangeville & District, and Rogers tv Orangeville.  The goals for our election work are to connect members of the community with the candidates in our riding, and to ensure local business needs are top of mind during (and after) the election.

With the pandemic, of course, the way in which we conduct events has had to change.  This year our election work will have a hybrid nature and include three components:  a televised/streamed debate; the opportunity for candidates to share their bios and information on our website; and the opportunity for candidates to connect with the public in person at our open-air Think Local Market.

We have invited all candidates currently declared as running in our riding to:

  1. Participate in a televised/streamed debate, moderated by Doug Harkness, DBOT Treasurer.  The debate will air live on Rogers (on TV and online), on September 8th at 7pm. Questions will be submitted by the public through our website in advance of the debate.  DBOT will pre-sort the questions to cover as many topics as possible during the 2-hour debate time frame. Candidates will not be informed of any of the questions prior to the debate.
  2. Share their bio, photo, website, and social media links with us for our Elections Portal on our dufferinbot.ca website, dufferinbot.ca/election-2021
  3. Meet and greet the public by having a booth at our Think Local Market (an open air, farmers-market style event showcasing local businesses) on September 14th, from 3pm-7pm.

While the large, traditional, in-person forum is not possible this year, we are pleased to offer three alternative ways for the community to have the opportunity to connect with and learn about the candidates.

We thank all the candidates for their dedication to this community and for putting forward their names to represent Dufferin-Caledon in Parliament.  Thank you to Rogers tv Orangeville for filming the election debates and to the Dufferin Federation of Agriculture, and the CFUW Orangeville & District, for your partnership.

The Dufferin Board of Trade is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with a small group of staff and volunteers dedicating their time and resources to managing the election debate, online portal, and think local market.  This is done in service to our members, the business community, and the residents of Dufferin County.  On behalf of our organization, and our partners, we encourage all voters to make sure to vote on September 20th, 2021!
