Dufferin County, ON: On October 11th, the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) Golf Committee presented a cheque for $3854.00 to the Bethell Hospice Foundation. The funds were raised at the 2018 Play Local Golf Tournament silent auction on August 23, 2018, and presented at Bethell Hospice Residence.
The Play Local Golf Tournament is one of DBOT’s four marquee networking events. This year’s tournament welcomed over eighty golfers and dinner guests who were invited to participate in the silent auction benefiting Bethell Hospice Foundation.
The auction items were generously donated by local businesses operating in the greater Dufferin area. “The golf tournament is an opportunity for the business community to come together for a day of fun, but also to give back and recognize the integral role that business has within this community,” Pete Renshaw, Chair of the Dufferin Board of Trade, said. “It is truly an honour to present this cheque on behalf of our members and the entire Dufferin business community.”
Government funding covers only direct care medical staffing costs for Bethell Hospice. Every other cost – from food, medication and the residential hospice building itself to community, bereavement and outreach programs – is funded directly from donations. “Community support is essential to help us keep the doors of Bethell Hospice open, and all of our programs and services are available at no cost to residents, program participants or their families,” Jeannette Vanden Heuvel, Director of Development Bethell Hospice Foundation, said.
This year the golf committee received nearly $10,000 in items for the silent auction. The 2018 Play Local Golf Tournament was held at Shelburne Golf & Country Club and was generously supported by the business community through sponsorship and donations.
