DBOT Ambassador Program

Role Description

The Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) Ambassadors are a volunteer committee, comprised of champions for our organization who build long-term relationships with our members and encourage overall membership growth. Ambassadors are an important link between DBOT, our members, and the community. Along with our Board and Staff, our Ambassadors are the face of our organization, and are mentors and leaders in the Dufferin area. They believe in and represent our organization, promote the “Think Local” program, and support DBOT as the “voice of business in Dufferin”.

 

Ambassador Benefits:

  • Personalized name badge identifying you as a DBOT Ambassador;
  • Discounted costs to some DBOT events that you attend as a DBOT
  • Recognition and acknowledgment for your efforts annually in the Business in Our County newsletter and DBOT social media channels, and throughout the year at various functions and events.

 

Events

The various events and activities you are encouraged to attend and promote include:

  • DBOT’s four annual marquee events:
    • New Year Kick-Off
    • AGM & Spring Function
    • Golf Tournament
    • Business Excellence Awards
  • Industry Luncheon;
  • Sub-committee events, as appropriate:
    • Dufferin Women in Business,
    • Dufferin Young
  • Other DBOT ad-hoc events throughout the year
  • Ambassador Committee meetings (6-10 times per year, as deemed necessary by committee)

 

Expectations

  • Ambassadors must be a DBOT member in good standing, or an employee of a current member;
  • Ambassadors are local entrepreneurs and businesspeople who conduct themselves professionally at all times and positively raise DBOT’s public image.
  • A minimum of one year commitment to the Ambassador
  • The ability to give 4 – 6 hours/month to Ambassador duties, including meetings;
  • Inviting, guiding, and introducing new members to/at DBOT events;
  • Encouraging members to become involved with the various programs available to maximize their membership, such as Chamber Insurance, M2M Discounts, Affinity Programs, and networking events;
  • Explaining the benefits of membership to non-members and encouraging them become members.
  • Ensuring DBOT is meeting new and existing members’ individual needs;
  • Adhere to the DBOT Ambassador Code of Conduct (Appendix A), including conflict of interest and confidentiality clauses;

 

Appendix A: DBOT Ambassador Code of Conduct

Core Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Be a member in good standing;
  • Help members maximize their return on investment by attending events and using membership opportunities, benefits, and services;
  • Liaise and encourage communication and feedback between members, DBOT management, and staff; and
  • Recruit new Ambassadors and members as appropriate

 

Code of Conduct:

The Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) is not only a pillar in Dufferin but is also highly respected across the region. DBOT has a reputation for results and integrity in business issues, and is the voice of business in Dufferin County. As a volunteer Ambassador, you will provide representation for DBOT while promoting and maintaining the aforementioned reputation. Ambassadors will abide by the following codes of conduct.

 

Ambassadors shall:

  • Actively perform their duties as per the specified requirements and responsibilities;
  • Deliver on volunteer time commitments to the best of their ability;
  • Work pro-actively and in conjunction with DBOT management and staff;
  • Seek advice on any policies and procedures that may be relevant, including potential conflicts of interest between an individual’s business interests, and the broader interests of the DBOT as an organization, and the membership as a whole;
  • Act, in any public or community capacity, to represent the DBOT’s mission, mandate, and policies and values, first and foremost;
  • Exercise their responsibilities honestly and in good faith as representatives of the DBOT at large and do so with due diligence, in a reasonable and prudent manner, without prejudice to personal/professional interests or involvements;
  • Represent loyalty to the best interests of the DBOT and its members;
  • Not use their position to obtain benefits for themselves, their company, clients, third parties, or family members;
  • Represent the DBOT in a professional, respectful, and appropriate manner that reflects positively on the DBOT and its membership;
  • Recognize that they are spokespersons for the DBOT and what it stands for, and therefore that their actions reflect the DBOT’s professionalism, values, and visions out in the larger community;
  • Actively develop their understanding and communications of DBOT benefits and services;
  • Lead by example — facilitate networking and encouraging communication between DBOT members at events;
  • Respect and support the DBOT’s by-laws, policies, Code of Conduct, and the decisions of the Board;
  • Honour the confidentiality of all committee discussions and presentations, or other matters identified by the Board or Management of DBOT. This extends to information or knowledge that has been acquired as a participant in the committee that could be damaging to the DBOT if improperly disclosed;
  • Adhere to the volunteer duties and responsibilities as required for each event;
  • Not practice or tolerate discrimination or harassment against any staff member or volunteer on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family relationship, economic status, identity, or disability;
  • Adhere to these guidelines. Should any discrepancy be observed or any grievances arise from, by or about an Ambassador, it will be directed through the DBOT Board Chair for resolution
