“The Local T-Shirt Company”
|In the 1840s my Great Grandfather Alexander McFarlane established the family farm just west of Shelburne on Highway 89. He raised cattle, swine and 7 kids, and also helped build the church in Keldon. My Grandfather (Earl McFarlane), built his farm on the property beside my Great Grandfather, where my Dad was born and raised. My Grandfather was a Reeve for East Luther and council member for Dufferin County.
When it came to starting a company, we wanted something that told the story of where we live and where we come from. At the time we had relatives visiting from the UK and they wanted to buy a souvenir tshirt. We didn’t have one, so they ended up buying a Muskoka tshirt. I was horrified. That night I designed the Mulmur tshirt. I now create, design and hand-screen each shirt. We have over 12 designs…and working on more as we speak!
The idea behind the ‘souvenir shirt’ was never about a cool design or simply something you thought looked good. It had to have meaning and it had to be relevant. That’s when we decided “behind every design was a story”….you have to live here to get it.
It’s not just a tshirt, it’s local pride. It’s our roots and routes, for all generations.
