As Bryan’s Fuel celebrates its 100th year in business, it’s clear that this family-owned business has become a cornerstone of the community. Since 1924, with much variation over the years, from delivering hay to coal, then oil, natural gas, and now primarily propane, the company has adapted and evolved greatly.
It’s down to “persistence, resilience, vision, and luck,” according to Roy Bryan, current president of the company. Quite a simple formula that kept them going through a century’s worth of changes and now growing to serve more than 6,000 customers.
Today, Bryan’s Fuel focuses on three basic areas: services—including HVAC and air conditioning equipment installations for replacing old equipment or upgrading to better ones, and fuel delivery.
At the same time, however, what sets them apart is not in their services but their commitment toward the community they live in. “Being in business is kind of like a circle,” Roy says, “You have to give in order to get back. Being part of the community is a huge aspect of what being a small business is.” That philosophy is manifested in their continuous support for local organizations. Roy has been a member of the Lion’s Club for 35 years, and the business is an active supporter for both the Headwater Health Care Foundation and Family Transition Place.
Other pillars that have made Bryan’s Fuel successful are education and mentorship. They have devoted one entire room to training their technicians so that the team is always current with the latest technologies and best practices. “Never hold back in giving what you’ve learned to other people,” he stresses, showcasing how important it is for them to develop new generations of professional technicians.
As Bryan’s Fuel steps into the second century of their business, so they have retained the ideals that kept them going thus far. It is not just about delivering fuel or fixing a furnace, but being a dependable presence in the community year after year and generation after generation.
