Kyle Seeback, Conservative Party of Canada

Kyle Seeback has been the Member of Parliament for Dufferin-Caledon since 2019. Currently, he’s also the Shadow Minister for Labour. He previously represented the federal riding of Brampton West from 2011 to 2015.
In Kyle’s pre-political life, he worked as a civil litigation lawyer where he argued cases in the Superior Court of Justice and the Divisional Court. He’s also a trained mediator.
Kyle’s passionate about freedom of speech and democratic institutions. He’s proud of his work on helping to pass the Reform Act, a critical piece of federal legislation that enhances the independence of Members of Parliament.
Honouring those who serve our community has been a distinct pleasure for Kyle. Over the past six years he’s:
• recognized and honoured community champions for their selfless service during the Covid 19 pandemic.

• presented Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pins to community heroes who exemplify the devoted service Her Majesty demonstrated during her 70 years on the Throne.

• awarded King Charles III Coronation Medals to community champions for their exceptional service and outstanding contributions to Dufferin-Caledon.
Representing you and being your voice in Ottawa has been Kyle’s commitment from day one. He’s held town hall meetings across Dufferin Caledon to learn about the issues that are important to you. He’s also made sure that he knew how you wanted him to vote on bills in Ottawa. He frequently sent out surveys asking you how he should vote and voted the way the majority of respondents asked him to!
What Kyle’s most proud of was creating and organizing Hockey Night in Dufferin-Caledon. In just three short years, this family-friendly community event has raised over $350,000 to support the purchase of an MRI machine for our local hospital!

Viktor Karklins, New Democratic Party

Growing up in Orangeville, I loved spending every minute I could outside. On the water, in the water, around the water — if there was a lake I wanted to be there. If there was a hill I wanted to climb it. If there was snow I wanted to be the first one through it. After living all across Canada, when I finally had a family of my own I wanted to be back here, to be back home. Dufferin-Caledon has some of the most beautiful and relaxing examples of nature that Canada has to offer, with lakes and trails galore (and even more just a short drive away).

But coming home wasn’t easy. When it comes to work, commuting seems to be a requirement. When it comes to housing, it is the hunger games, with those who don’t already own a home fighting to find a safe and clean place with no guarantee of stability. Those who do own homes live in fear of mortgage renewals, with so many being one layoff or illness away from struggling to pay for the roof over their heads. Recently, I’ve seen first-hand how retirement has slipped out of the fingers of so many, forced to keep working and renting and running out the clock instead of finally being able to rest. And don’t get me started on the cost of food, feeding small humans in your home feels like you’re buying for royalty when you’re actually just trying to get some fresh fruits and vegetables. This also means you sometimes go without to make sure they are all fed.

So let’s bring back hope.

Let’s hope for better, dream of more, and work together to solve the crises before us. Let’s stop the greed in its tracks and force the grocery stores to keep prices fair, while punishing price gouging on essentials. You’re already paying more than your fair share of taxes, so let’s make sure the billionaires do too! And rather than cuts that leave the most vulnerable out in the cold, let’s provide health, safety, and services to everyone rather than just the ultra-rich.

You work hard, so I’ll work hard for you. Let’s make life fair again. Together.

Michael Dehn,

Liberal Party

Michael Dehn is the current Mayor of Erin, Wellington County Councillor who is on the Roads and Planning Committee, and Board Member at Credit Valley Conservation. A Hillsburgh resident, Michael has spent over 40 years living in the area, with a brief period in Oakville before returning to his family’s farm. His background includes running public mining companies, bringing a wealth of experience in management as well as community and first nations engagement.

Michael previously ran for mayor in 2018, narrowly missing out by just 210 votes. He filed his nomination for mayor again in 2022 and has since taken office. Michael is known for his strong community roots and dedication to improving the quality of life for Erin residents. One of his primary focuses has been on ensuring sustainable growth, protection of surface and drinking water and addressing concerns related to the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

Michael Dehn has showcased a keen interest in agriculture, particularly in the context of sustainable land use. Throughout his tenure, Dehn has focused on agricultural zoning, balancing residential and commercial development with the preservation of farmland. Under Michael’s leadership the Town of Erin’s Council gladly accepted the addition of more than 7000 acres of the Paris – Galt Moraine into communities Greenbelt, adding additional protections to agricultural land and helping limit urban boundary expansion into prime and secondary classified agricultural land.

His involvement extends to local agricultural communities, where he advocates for policies that support farmers and protect agricultural land from non-agricultural uses. Through initiatives aiming at promoting local food production and addressing the needs of rural communities, Michael Dehn continues to underscore the importance of agriculture in sustaining Erin’s economic and environmental health. Michael is a board member of Alpaca Ontario, Alpaca Canada and the Wellington Plowmen’s Association.

Michael has worked in most of the gold belts in Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, as well as with industrial minerals operations in Saskatchewan and New Bruinswick. His geological career has taken him to leading companies active in Mexico, the USA, Sweden and Finland, as well as a gold and silver production company in Ecuador.

Michael is married to his wife lovely wife Anna and they have a 9 year old son together. They live on Michael’s the family farm which now host 140 alpacas as well as sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and almost not surprisingly, peacocks. Anna’s three adult children help run the farm as well as the fibre mill that process alpaca fibre into yarn.

During his tenure, Michael continues to advocate for practical solutions to address local issues, leveraging his experience to lead towards a more sustainable future.

George Nakitsas,

Ontario NDP

My wife Cathy and I live in Mono. Two of our three daughters, their husbands and three of our young grandchildren also live in Dufferin. While family time has always been important, we have always made time to actively participate in community associations and events everywhere we have called home. My passion for outdoor activity and youth sports got me involved in coaching for many years. My strong belief in family and community were reinforced by my work with two federal leaders of the New Democratic Party, Ed Broadbent and Jack Layton. I worked with Ed Broadbent from 1982-89, as Research Director and then Principal Secretary, and with Jack Layton from 2006-11. My work with these leaders helped me realize just how much better we can be as a community and society when we work together and look out for each other. In between, as the Executive Director of the Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress, I worked with the Canadian steel industry’s companies and union to bring innovative solutions to the serious worker adjustment, training and apprenticeship challenges facing the industry and its workers. We were also invited to bring these innovations to help industries and workers in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. I continued, as Assistant to the National Director of the United Steelworkers, to work for better jobs, wages and benefits for working people across Canada. I am running in this election to be your next Member of Provincial Parliament because I would like to use my long and diverse experience to better the everyday lives of people here in Dufferin Caledon and across Ontario. I very much believe that we can do much better to make housing affordable, to provide family doctors to everyone, to end long waits at Headwaters Emergency, to provide the support our children and our parents need and to deal with urban congestion without threatening our precious farmland and Greenbelt.
